CALDWELL, Idaho - Mitch Viydo and Zach Fabricius combined on a five-hit shutout, as The College of Idaho grabbed the series finale from Whitworth University, 7-0, at Wolfe Field.
Viydo tossed six strong innings, working around some early control problems, to pick up his first win of the season. The transfer allowed four hits and walked four, stranding runners in scoring position in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Fabricius notched the save, allowing just one hit and one walk, striking out three.
Chase Miller capped a big weekend by going 3-for-4 with three RBI - including a big two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
C of I opened the scoring in the first inning, as Jordan Grubbs scored on a passed ball, with the Yotes adding a run in the third on a two-out RBI single from Mitch Skaggs. Miller roped a two-out RBI double into the left field corner in the fifth to make it 3-0, with back-to-back pinch hit RBI singles by Seth Champlin and Gregg Simonds in the sixth pushed the lead to 5-0.
Michael Renner took the loss for Whitworth (3-5), allowing two runs on three hits in three innings of work. Five different Pirates had one hit in the game.
The Yotes return to action next weekend, hosting NAIA independent, Antelope Valley, in a four-game series.
