Evergreen Stuns Lady Yotes, 73-69

Box Score

CALDWELL, Idaho – A 17-3 run to close the first half gave The Evergreen State College a lead it would not relinquish, as the Geoducks surprised The College of Idaho, 73-69, in a key Cascade Conference women's matchup inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Lady Yotes (14-11, 11-6 CCC) pulled even at 22-22 on a Sienna Edmunson baseline runner, but were held to just one made field goal over the final seven minutes of the period. Randi Boseman and Jessica Denmon each had a pair of baskets in the run, as the Geoducks (14-10, 10-7) led 39-25 at the half.

The lead would extend to 15 before the Yotes caught fire, using a 17-5 run, capped by an Erica Martinez three at the 14-minute mark to pull within 45-42. ESC countered with an 11-2 spurt, including back-to-back Lanieca Weatherspoon jumpers, to extend the margin to 56-44.

C of I made one last push inside the final two minutes, as a Dayna Drager put-back and a Martinez three got the Coyotes within 70-67. ESC missed a short jumper on their next possession and the Yotes got the rebound, but lost the ball on the way up floor – with Denmon coming away with the ball – making 1-of-2 subsequent free throws to seal the win.

Denmon had 19 points in the victory for the Geoducks, with Sadee Jones scoring 15 points and adding a game-high 16 rebounds. ESC made 27-of-54 field goals on the evening and held a commanding 46-32 edge on the glass.

Martinez had 18 points in the loss for C of I, with Drager adding 14, and Chakala Carthen tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds, notching her 17th double-double of the year. The Yotes struggled from outside, making just 9-of-36 three-point attempts.

C of I closes out the regular-season with a 5:30 p.m. match-up with Northwest University – needing a victory to clinch a Cascade Conference Tournament quarterfinal home game.
