PORTLAND, Ore. - College of Idaho bats were limited to just 12 hits on the afternoon, as the Coyotes saw their four-game win streak snapped with a 12-3 loss to George Fox and a 7-3 loss to Concordia at Porter Park.
In Game 1, the Bruins (4-1) broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of fifth inning runs - adding insurance tallies in the final three innings.
GFU grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning, including a two-out RBI single by Danny Clifford. The Yotes (4-2) battled back with a three-run fourth, getting a two-run double from Mitch Skaggs and a tying RBI ground out from Sam Johnston.
Unfortunately, the stalemate did not last long, as an error by the Yotes infield allowed a run to score in the fifth, with Clifford adding a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3. A seventh inning RBI single by Clay Mott made it 6-3, back-to-back RBI doubles by Josh Rapacz and Derek Dixon in the eight made it 8-3, with GFU taking advantage of three walks, a hit by pitch, and two wild pitches in the ninth to score four runs.
Clay Gartner tossed seven innings of five-hit ball to pick up the win for the Bruins, with Rapacz going 4-for-5 with two RBI and Matthew Zeller adding three hits.
Kyle Garvin took the loss for C of I, allowing six runs on 10 hits in seven innings, with Chase Miller recording the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
Game 2 saw the Cavaliers (2-1) jump out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, including RBI doubles by Christian Lichtenthale in each of the first two frames.
C of I would get within 4-3 in the sixth, as a Miller RBI ground out got the Yotes on the board in fifth, with a Mitch Skaggs RBI triple and a Cole Mansanerez sacrifice fly cutting the gap to a run.
CU struck back, taking advantage of a Coyote error to prolong the inning, with Lichtenthale singling home two runs with two outs to make it 6-3 and a Blake Drake RBI double in the eight capping the scoring.
Lichtenthale went 3-for-4 with four RBI, with Drake and Ian Erickson each logging a pair of hits. Jason Snodgrass allowed six hits in six innings for the win.
Taylor Nicholson took the loss, allowing four earned run in six innings of work, with Skaggs going 2-for-4 at the plate.
C of I returns to the diamond tomorrow, with games again against GFU and CU.
