CALDWELL, Idaho – A 14-2 run midway through the second half broke open a tie game as Carroll College outlasted the College of Idaho, 60-49, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Fighting Saints (5-3) saw a 14-point second half lead evaporate, only to hit 8-of-9 free throws and a trio of inside baskets over an eight minute stretch in closing out a three games in three nights stretch with a victory.
Carroll started quickly, hitting five three-pointers, including a trio of treys from Kalee Junkermeier, in a 21-6 run to open the game.
The Lady Yotes (1-8) clamped down defensively early in the second half, as Aleah Lowber scored seven of her team-high 15 points in a 13-0 run, tying the game at 41-41 with just over 10 minutes remaining. The Saints responded by working the ball inside, as Cassidy Hashley scored six points and Bailey Snelling added five more in the game-changing surge – while holding C of I to 1-of-10 shooting and four turnovers in a seven minute stretch.
Hashley led all scorers with 16 points and 11 rebounds, with Junkermeier scoring 15 and Snelling recording 13 points and five rebounds. CC had a 41-34 edge on the glass and won despite making just 1-of-11 three-pointers in the second half.
Elisha Hensey had 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the loss for C of I, with Jamiece Yizar scoring seven points and recording a team-high nine rebounds.
