CALDWELL, Idaho – Joe Bolin recorded his second hat trick of the season, including the fastest goal to start a half in program history, as the College of Idaho closed the season with a 7-2 victory over playoff bound Corban University at Simplot Stadium.
On a cold day that saw five seniors play their final game, it was the junior Bolin that stole the show. After a soft touch in the center circle on the second half kickoff by Tyler Lawton, Bolin unleashed a 60-yard strike over the head of Corban keeper Tim Kagey to give the Coyotes (8-10, 5-9 CCC) a 5-0 lead.
From the outset, the Yotes were the aggressors against the defending conference champion Warriors (10-7-1, 8-5-1), breaking through in the 27th minute as Bolin played a through ball to Lawton, driving a ball into the net for the first tally. Two minutes later, Joao Cardoso collected a ball 50-yards from the net and hit a looping shot over Kagey into the left corner of the twine.
C of I kept the pressure on, as in the 34th minute, Andres Idoeta played a through ball to Bolin down the left side, flicking home the counter. The Yotes added a penalty kick in the 39th minute after Travis Sharp was fouled in the box, with senior Luis Gomez converting the attempt from the spot.
Corban battled back in the second half, as Daniel Fredrickson headed home a Derik Chaney corner kick and Arsinio Walker hammered home a penalty kick after a foul in the box to close the gap to 5-2.
However, the Yotes had an answer, as Riley Smith had a great individual effort in the 58th minute, making a run down the left side, with his initial shot blocked by Cagey, but the freshman gobbled up the rebound and found the right corner of the net. Bolin capped the scoring in the 71st minute, collecting a defensive miscue by the Warriors and beating Cagey to the near post.
C of I, which ended a six-game losing streak to Corban, held a 20-12 edge in shots, with both teams recording three corner kicks. John French and Grant Billings combined to make three saves in the win.
