LEWISTON, Idaho – Two-sport athlete Jamiece Yizar scored 16 points off the bench, leading the College of Idaho to their first win of 2014-15, stopping New Hope Christian, 63-52, at the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic.
The win for the Lady Yotes (1-5) was the first under new head coach, Mark Owen, and ended a five-game losing streak to start the year.
Yizar, an all-conference women's soccer player, started an 8-1 first half run with a basket that broke a 16-16 tie, with back-to-back Kellie Ross three-pointers giving C of I a lead they would not relinquish.
Leading 35-29 at the break, a Morgan Buhr trey and two-straight Alicia Jones buckets extended C of I's lead to 52-35, as the Yotes rolled to the win over the NCCAA Deacons (1-9).
C of I hit a season-best 47-percent of their field goal attempts, while recording a plus-six rebound margin – tops on the season.
Yizar added four rebounds and four steals in the victory, with Jones scoring 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Haylee Burnham had 10 points, while Elisha Hensey had seven points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Jessica Logan led NHCC with 22 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort.
C of I returns to action next weekend, hosting the Best Western Inn and Suites Lady Yote Classic.
