NNU Spoils Home Opener for Lady Yotes

Crusaders Defeat C of I in Exhibition, 90-59

CALDWELL, Idaho - Lexi Tubbs scored 18 of her game-high 25 points in the second half, as Northwest Nazarene defeated rival College of Idaho, 90-59, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Crusaders (1-2) scored over 80 points for the third-straight game, using a 51 point second half to break open the contest, spoiling the home debut of Mark Owen as Lady Yotes head coach.

NNU sprinted out to a 16-4 lead in the opening five minutes, getting two baskets each from posts Katie Swanson and Kate Cryderman.  The Lady Yotes, who played the game as an exhibition, answered with an 11-2 run over a six minute span, closing the gap to 18-15 on a Haylee Burnham runner at the midway point of the half.

C of I was within 27-23 with two minutes left in the half after an Ashleigh Blalock basket, but Tubbs canned a three to start a 12-4 run to end the half.

In the second half, the Yotes trailed 63-45 with 10 minutes remaining, when Tubbs took over.  The junior scored 13 points, including three three-pointers, in a five minute stretch, as the Crusaders built the lead to 79-51.

Cryderman had 14 points and six rebounds for NNU in the victory, with Ellie Logan adding 12 points.  The Crusaders had a 50-41 edge on the glass and made 49-percent of their field goal attempts.

Burnham led the Yotes with 13 points and five rebounds, with Aleah Lowber scoring all 12 of her points in the first half, while leading C of I with six rebounds and six assists.  The hosts made just 20-of-69 field goal attempts and recorded 17 turnovers.

C of I returns to action this weekend, traveling to Lewiston for games against Lewis-Clark State and New Hope Christian.
