Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho – Emanuel Morgan scored eight of his 11 points in a 24-4 first half run, as the College of Idaho ran their season opening win streak to seven, crushing NAIA Division I Montana Tech, 90-60, at the Clearwater River Casino Invitational.
Morgan started the run with a short field goal, and then added a pair of three-point baskets, as the Coyotes (7-0) turned a 19-17 lead at the nine minute mark of the half into a 43-21 advantage over a seven minute stretch.
All 15 C of I players that suited up scored at least two points as the Yotes added to their longest win streak to start a season since the 1995-96 NAIA Division II title campaign.
The Yotes made 14 three-point baskets in the victory, including a 70-foot desperation heave from Trevor Thomas to beat the first half buzzer, giving C of I a 52-26 lead at the break. C of I extended the lead to as many as 37 in the second half, using a 50-30 rebound margin over the Orediggers (3-2), including 18 offensive boards.
Joey Nebeker had 11 points in the victory, with Jordan O'Byrne and Michael Goward each adding nine. Marck Coffin added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
Tech was led by nine points from John Chapman and eight points each from Keegan McCarthy and Trent Thompson.
The Yotes return home next weekend for games against Westminster and Montana State-Northern.
NOTES: O'Byrne was named tournament MVP after scoring 30 points, including seven three-point baskets, in the two games…fellow Coyote, Josh Wilson was named to the five-man All-Tournament Team.
