CALDWELL, Idaho – Taylor Young recorded a goal and an assist, as Northwest University kept their Cascade Conference title hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over the College of Idaho at Brothers Park.
The Eagles (12-3, 8-3 CCC) kept pace with rivals Concordia and Corban in the race for the league crown, while ending C of I's playoff hopes.
NU broke through first in the 17th minute, as Odason Pelogi played a cross over the six-yard box that was touched into the goal by a Coyote defender. The visitors nearly made it 2-0 a minute later, as a Brandon Corwin drive clanged off the crossbar, however, did get their second goal in the 32nd minute, as Pelogi played a ball into the area, where Young slotted home a counter into the right corner of the netting.
C of I (6-9, 3-8) cut the lead in half in the 54th minute, as Joe Bolin and Joao Cardoso played a nifty combination, with Bolin touching home a left-footed shot into the left corner of the goal.
The Yotes kept the pressure on, holding a 9-5 edge in second half shots, but Daniel Christenson made seven saves to earn the victory. NU got an insurance tally in the 89th, as Young found Jacob Weaver on a counter-attack, chipping an 18-yard shot into the goal.
C of I hits the road next weekend, playing matches at Warner Pacific and Concordia.
