SALEM, Ore. - Sadee Kallis scored in the 13th minute, helping Corban University blank the College of Idaho, 3-0, this afternoon at Warrior Field.
Despite the loss, the Lady Yotes (6-5-4, 3-2-3 CCC) clinched their tenth all-time playoff spot and first since 2011, securing a berth in the Cascade Conference Championships, set to begin Nov. 5. Losses by both Eastern Oregon and Evergreen guaranteed C of I will finish no worse than sixth in the final league table, with a win Saturday at Northwest Christian and a loss by either Warner Pacific or Corban giving the Lady Yotes a home playoff game.
The Warriors (9-6-2, 4-3-1), winners of four of their last five matches, clinched a spot in the CCC playoffs with the victory. Kallis got Corban on the board early on, as she ran in behind the C of I defense, blasting a shot from 10-yards out for her fifth goal of the season.
The Lady Yotes applied plenty of pressure in the first half, recording a 5-1 edge on corner kicks, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities. Three of the five C of I shots were on target, but Warrior keeper Kaitlyn Mendenhall was able to save each attempt.Â
Corban extended their lead in the 58th minute as Corrine Tank drilled a shot past freshman keeper Brittany Houghton from 15-yards out. The Warriors would add an insurance goal in the 78th minute as Karissa Stark scored off a deflected from Houghton.
The Warriors held a 23-7 shot advantage in the match, including an 18-2 edge in the second half. Allie Boyd led the Lady Yotes with two shots in the match, one of which was on target.
Houghton played all 90 minutes in goal, recording seven saves on the afternoon.
C of I will wrap up the regular season Saturday, when they travel to Northwest Christian University for the season finale. C of I holds an all-time 5-2 advantage on the Beacons, but has dropped the last two meetings.
