Lady Yotes Find Extra-Time Magic

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Julia Fretwell scored the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute to send the College of Idaho into the postseason on a winning note, sneaking past Northwest Christian, 1-0, in the second extra-time period.

In the second overtime, Katelyn Benavidez played a cross just inside the six-yard box, finding the foot of Fretwell who hammered home win winner.

The Lady Yotes (7-5-4, 4-2-3 CCC), playing in their sixth overtime game of the season, earned a home date in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Championships with the victory, coupled with a Warner Pacific loss at Evergreen.  C of I will host WP at Simplot Stadium, November 5, at 2 p.m.

NCU (7-11, 2-7) had the run of the pitch in the first half, peppering the goal with six shots on frame, but C of I keeper Brittany Houghton turned each one away.

In the second half, both teams had opportunities, including a Sydney Woods shot in the final minutes that sailed high.

After an unventful first overtime, the Beacons had a chance in the first minute of the second extra session, as Janelle Richards blasted a shot that was stopped by Houghton.  C of I pushed the ball the other direction, leading to the winning goal.

The final stats were split, as NCU held a 17-15 shot edge - as Stevie Harrison had four shots on goal for the Beacons and Woods leading the Yotes with five shots. C of I held a 6-4 margin in corner kicks.
