SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A first half penalty kick was all Northwest Christian needed, as the Beacons handed the College of Idaho their fourth-straight loss, a 1-0 decision at Mike Kelly Field.
In the 32nd minute, the Beacons (3-7-2, 2-5-1 CCC) Sergio Maldonado was fouled on a run in the box, with Angel Sandoval tucking the resulting penalty kick into the lower left corner of the net for the only tally of the game.
The Yotes (5-7, 2-6) threatened in the second half, putting three shots on frame, but Bren Bletscher of NCU saved each of the chances to pick up his second shutout of the season.
NCU held a 15-12 edge in shots, while the Yotes were unable to convert on eight corner kick chances. Grant Billings made four saves in the loss for C of I.
The Coyotes return home on Wednesday to host Warner Pacific.
