KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Elisha Hensey drained a step-back 18-foot jumper with one second remaining, lifting The College of Idaho to a big 76-74 victory over Oregon Tech at Danny Miles Court.
After watching the Owls (18-4, 7-4 CCC) fight back from a 21- point deficit to tie the game on a Karly Leveque three-point play with 18 seconds left, the Yotes turned to their point-guard for a second-straight night. Hensey, who had her lay-up rim out at the horn at Southern Oregon 24 hours ago, was isolated at the top of the key, driving to the left side, then popped back for the jump shot that hit nothing but the net – sealing the win.
Hensey had a game-high 21 points for the Lady Yotes (10-9, 7-4), who ended OIT's undefeated record on their home floor and pulled into a three-way tie for second place.
C of I used a pair of big runs early in the game to establish the double-digit lead. Hensey hit a pair of three-pointers in a 12-2 run that gave the Coyotes a 16-9 lead, with the visitors holding Tech without a made field goal for a six-minute stretch, draining four treys in the 19-1 run that gave the Yotes a 35-14 lead.
OIT clawed back into the game, holding the Lady Yotes to just one made field goal over an eight minute stretch of the second half, cutting the margin to 67-63 on a Tess Armstrong bucket. Chakala Carthen and Sienna Edmunson hit consecutive jumpers for C of I to extend the lead to eight – but a trey by Karissa Dixon, and three-point plays by Carrie Thibeaux and Leveque keyed a wild 11-3 run over the final 90 seconds to get Tech even.
Carthen logged her 12th double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and adding 12 rebounds, with Erica Martinez adding 19 for the Yotes. C of I made 14-of-18 free throws and connected on 10 three-pointers – the sixth-straight game with nine-or-more three's.
Armstrong led four OIT scorers in double-figures with 14 points, with Kassi Conditt and Ashleigh Vandenbrink adding 13, and McKensey Peters 12. Tech lost despite a 43-34 edge on the glass.
C of I returns to action on Friday night, opening a three-game home stand with a 5:30 tip against Concordia.
