Box Score
PORTLAND, Ore. - Francisco Duenas slotted home a long cross from Edgar Contreras with just 14 seconds remaining in the second overtime, lifting Warner Pacific to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over The College of Idaho at David Douglas High School.
The Coyotes (1-6, 1-2 CCC) erased a 2-1 second half deficit with goals in the 60th and 82nd minutes, but could not hang on - as WP evened the score on an Almir Celebic 15-yard strike off a long pass from Andres Campos with just three minutes remaining in regulation.
C of I had the best chance in the first overtime, as Joao Cardoso cracked a 25-yard free kick that Knights (2-3, 1-2) keeper Dorian Lair had to make a diving save to his left to keep the score tied. WP had a chance midway through the second overtime, but Coyote keeper Colin Benham-Marin stopped the chance from Ruben Amezcua.
The Yotes struck first in the opening half, as a Cardoso corner kick found the head of Cristian Sanchez - who found the left corner of the twine for a 1-0 lead. WP answered, as Celebic touched a long through-ball to Alberto Casas, who beat Benham-Marin to his left to even the score at 1-1. The Knights took the lead early in the second half, as Casas blasted home a shot from the top of the 18-yard stripe, but WP gave the Yotes the equalizer, knocking an own goal into their net in the 60th minute. C of I retook the lead in the 82nd minute after Cardoso was fouled in the box, with Yan Gioseffi burying the resulting penalty kick.
WP held a 12-6 edge in total shots, with Lair making three saves in the victory. The Yotes lost despite an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
C of I returns to action tomorrow, traveling to Concordia for a 7 p.m. start.
