Lady Yotes Drop Pair of Tough Games at Oregon Tech

McKensie Stanton had three doubles at Oregon Tech
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Despite four hits from Alexis Macias and three doubles from McKensie Stanton, The College of Idaho could not stop a potent Oregon Tech offensive attack, as the No. 13 ranked Owls swept the Lady Yotes in Cascade Conference play.

OIT (30-9, 14-4 CCC) got a walk-off home run from Jess Plummer to win the opener, 4-3, then used a five-run first inning to grab Game 2, 9-5.

The Lady Yotes (20-20, 6-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of Game 1 - as Ashley Van Horne singled home a run, Stanton following with an RBI double, and a third run scoring on a Tech error.  OIT got a run back in the second on a Shawna Collins sacrifice fly, then after the Yotes squandered a bases-loaded, one-out opportunity in the fifth, tied the game in the sixth on a two-out, two-run Collins home run.  The hosts won the game in their final at bat, as Plummer roped a leadoff long ball, her 13th of the season, to start the seventh.

Ashley Sfetku went 2-for-2 for OIT, while Rachael Strong went 2-for-2 in the loss for the Yotes.

Game 2 started quickly for the Owls, as Sara Coates singled in a run and with the bases loaded, Melissa Logan rapped a base hit that was misplayed by the Coyote defense, clearing the bases.  A Taylor Schmidt RBI double made it 5-0.

The Lady Yotes tried to chip away at the deficit, getting a Kaci Baldwin RBI groundout in the second to make it 5-1, a Van Horne RBI triple in the third to make it 6-2, and got a Macias RBI single in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-4 - but couldn't get closer.

Four different OIT players had two hits in the win, with Rylee Carleton striking out six for the Owls.  Macias went 3-for-4 and Stanton had two doubles in the loss.

The C of I returns home on Tuesday, hosting Eastern Oregon at 3 p.m.
