Lady Yotes Close Out Trip with Split at UBC

Katie Rowe went 3-for-4 in the Game 1 win
DELTA, B.C. - Alexis Macias and Katie Rowe went 3-for-4 in a Game 1 win for The College of Idaho, as the Lady Yotes closed out their Spring Break trip with a split at the University of British Columbia.

The Purple and Gold earned an 8-3 victory in the opener, but Leigh Della Siega shut down The C of I (19-17) for the second-straight game in the nightcap, as UBC won 5-1.

The Coyotes got a quick 2-0 lead in the first of Game 1, as Macias lined a two-run single. The T-Birds (19-18) got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Yasmin Bains single off starter Nickayla Skinner.  Skinner however, threw just one inning, as the righty was injured in a collision at home plate in the second inning and did not return.

While reliever Cortni Pena stymied the UBC bats, the Coyote offense built the lead - getting a fifth inning Julia Henrie two-run single to make it 4-1, with Pena helping her own cause with an RBI single in the sixth.  The T-Birds broke through in the sixth on a two-run Lindsey McElroy single, but Anna Denn singled home a run and Rowe doubled in a pair to cap the scoring.

Pena allowed just three hits and struck out four for her sixth win, with Molly Mills going 2-for-4 - part of a C of I 11 hit attack.  No UBC player had more than one hit in the loss.

Pena got the ball in Game 2 and put zeros on the board until the fourth, when UBC manufactured a run on a Tayla Westgard two-out single.  Carlyn Shimizu led off the fifth with a double and scored on a Bains RBI ground out, with the hosts getting three key insurance runs in the sixth - including a two-run double from Cassandra Dypchey.

The C of I broke up the shutout in the seventh on a pinch hit RBI single by Henrie, but with two outs and the bases loaded, Macias flew out to deep left to end the game.

Della Siega allowed just four hits and fanned nine in the win for UBC, with Dypchey going 3-for-3.   Pena took the loss, allowing eight hits, four walks, and striking out two.

The Lady Yotes have the weekend off, prepping for the second half of the Cascade Conference season, beginning next Friday at Southern Oregon.
