CALDWELL, Idaho - Michael Garza and Parker Vernon limited Puget Sound to just three earned runs on the afternoon and The College of Idaho offense had just enough production, as the Coyotes swept the middle games of a weekend series with the Loggers at Wolfe Field, winning 5-2 and 4-2.

Garza, making his first appearance in three weeks, went six innings in the opener, working around a first inning two-run single from Loggers (7-12) shortstop Nathan Backes and five walks for the win. Vernon came in and worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to log his second save of the season.
The Yotes (14-9) got on the board with two outs in the bottom of the first, as Jesse Dodd doubled home Seth Champlin. Nathan Aguiar would hold the lead for UPS until the sixth, as Champlin singled, stole second, and scored on a line drive single to left by Nick Muncy. The C of I would load the bases, with pinch hitter Tom LaMue lining a two-run single through the drawn in infield to give the hosts a 4-2 lead. Vernon capped the four-run outburst with an RBI single.
Vernon had the lone multi-hit game for the Coyotes, while Connor Savage and Christian Carter each had two hits for the Loggers. Aguilar took the loss, allowing just four hits and striking out five.
Vernon returned to the hill in Game 2 and went the distance, working around 10 singles in the victory, stirking out six. The Yotes took advantage of pair of first inning errors to plate a run - as Dodd reached on a throwing error, moving to third on a Vernon single. With LaMue at the plate, courtesy runner Joe Roseberry was hung up between first and second, but Jeff Walton made an errant throw to second, allowing Dodd to score from third.
The C of I would push the lead to 3-0 in the fifth - scoring two more unearned runs. Vernon picked up an RBI with a ground out, with the second run scoring on a Logger throwing error.
UPS would cut the margin to 3-2 in the sixth, as Lucas Stone singled home Christian Savage and Walton singled home a second run, but Vernon got Stephen Kelsey to line out to center to end the threat and the Loggers had just one base runner the rest of the way.
Jarel Lewis went 2-for-3 in the win for the Yotes, with Savage going 2-for-4 for the Loggers. Jarrod Beiser took the loss for UPS, going six-plus innings, allowing just one earned run on seven hits.
The series finale is tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
