Lady Yotes Open Postseason With 65-56 Win over NCU

Felicity Jones led the Lady Yotes into the CCC semifinals
CALDWELL, Idaho – Felicity Jones scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds, as The College of Idaho withstood upset minded Northwest Christian, 65-56, in a Cascade Conference Championships quarterfinal inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Box Score

The Lady Yotes (20-7), who secured their fourth 20-win season in the last five years, will play host to Oregon Tech on Friday night in the league semifinals.  The two teams split the regular-season series.

With The C of I leading 52-51 with five minutes to play, Jones canned a three-pointer in the left corner, followed by a Dayna Drager trey, as Yotes used a 7-0 run to take command – as the hosts improved to 13-0 at home in playoff action under head coach Reagan Rossi.

It wasn’t easy, as the Beacons (13-17) hit 5-of-11 three-pointers in the opening half, using a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the period at 30-22.  However, 10-straight C of I points, capped by a Laura Geis free throw line jumper, gave the Yotes a 32-30 lead – before Aly Bruns banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the visitors the halftime lead.

Early in the second half, Jones scored six-straight points to erase a 39-38 NCU lead – and the Yotes would not trail again.  The Yotes would clamp down defensively, holding the visitors to 9-of-33 shooting in the second half.

Drager and Geis each had 12 points in the win for the Coyotes, with Chakala Carthen adding seven points and 10 rebounds – as The C of I held a commanding 49-37 edge on the glass.  Lindsey Shearer had 17 points and 16 rebounds in the loss for the Beacons, with Katie Collins scoring 17, as NCU lost despite going 10-for-10 from the foul line.

Tickets for the CCC semifinal will go on sale beginning tomorrow in The C of I sports information office.  Tickets are $12.00 for reserved seats and $7.00 for general admission.
