Lady Yotes Lose Overtime Thriller, 91-82

Box Score

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Jordan Asher canned a three-pointer to break an overtime tie, fueling a Northwest University 9-0 run to close the game, as the Eagles knocked off The College of Idaho, 91-82, in the Cascade Conference women's basketball opener for both teams.

After the Lady Yotes (3-5, 0-1) forced overtime on a Chakala Carthen free throw with seven seconds remaining in regulation, NU (6-3, 1-0) hit 6-of-7 shots in the extra session and forced four turnovers to earn the win.

The Eagles led early in OT, 80-76 – but a put-back by Carthen and a pair of Aleah Lowber free throws got the Yotes even. After the squads traded baskets, Asher canned a three from the right angle with 1:42 to give the hosts the lead, with a turnover leading to a Chanara Greene lay-up, and two straight C of I miscues led to Sanda Milovic lay-ups to close out the win.

The Yotes sprinted out to a 15-5 lead in the first four minutes, making seven of their first eight shots, but Greene and Milovic each had two baskets in a 16-3 NU run to give the hosts their first lead.

C of I led 38-36 at the break and extended the margin to 65-55 midway through the second half on an Elisha Hensey three, but the Eagles battled back again, as an Asher three capped a 12-2 run that tied the score at 67. A Greene basket gave the hosts a 76-74 lead in the final minute, but Hensey split a pair of free throws and after Carthen was fouled on the rebound of the missed second try, made the second of two attempts to force overtime.

Milovic led the Eagles with 20 points, with Greene coming off the bench to score 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. NU made 10-of-30 three-point attempts in the win.

Carthen had a monster night in the loss, scoring a game-high 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, with Dayna Drager adding 16. Erica Martinez and Hensey each had 15 points, with Aleah Lowber adding 10.

C of I returns to action tomorrow night with a 5:30 p.m. start at Evergreen.
