Martinez Scores 30, Lady Yotes Stop #17 Southern Oregon

Box Score

CALDWELL – Erica Martinez tallied a career-high 30 points, as The College of Idaho completed a weekend sweep of nationally-ranked opponents, dispatching Southern Oregon, 91-85, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The win for the Lady Yotes (6-6, 3-1 CCC), improved the team to 5-1 on their home floor this season, picking up their 23rd win in their past 24 home conference counters.

Elisha Hensey canned her first three jumpers of the night, as C of I sprinted out of the gate, grabbing a 13-6 lead just four minutes in. SOU (12-3, 2-2) responded, as an Autumn Durand trey got the visitors within 16-15, before Martinez caught fire, hitting a pair of 3's in an 11-2 Lady Yote run to lead 26-17 with 11 minutes remaining in the half. The Yotes forced 16 turnovers in the period and led 52-42 at the break.

Just after halftime, C of I extended their lead to 56-42 on a Chakala Carthen put back, but Southern rattled off nine straight points, including a long Kristen Schoenherr triple, cutting the gap to five with 17 minutes to play. SOU closed the margin to 89-86 with a minute to play and had possession, but a driving Allison Gida lay-up rattled out and Hensey made 2-of-4 free throws to close out the win.

"That was a great team effort," said head coach Reagan Rossi. "We won the rebound battle in the second half and got the key boards down the stretch when we needed it."

Martinez became the tenth C of I player to score 30 points in a game, making 5-of-10 three-point tries. Hensey had 17 points and 10 assists, Dayna Drager had 16 points and nine rebounds, with Carthen adding 13 points and 12 rebounds, as Yote starters scored 89 of their 91 points.

Carly Meister led the Raiders with 24 points and 10 rebounds, with Gida adding 19 points and 14 rebounds. Southern made 46-percent of their field goal attempts, but were forced into 23 turnovers.

The Lady Yotes will return to action next Saturday, heading to Utah State for an exhibition tilt against the Division I Aggies.
