Coyotes Blow Out Division II Point Loma Nazarene

Box Score

CALDWELL, Idaho – Antonio Garrett scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, as The College of Idaho routed NCAA Division II foe Point Loma Nazarene, 93-75, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Yotes (4-2) extended their win streak to four games, hitting 70-percent of their first half field goals and made a season-high 61-percent of their field goal attempts on the night.

C of I never trailed in the game, jumping out to an 11-4 lead on a Jordan O'Byrne three-pointer. After the Sea Lions (1-1) cut the margin to 15-10 on a pair of Hayden Lescault free throws, the Yotes exploded on a 22-4 run over an eight minute stretch, as Garrett had three-straight inside buckets and a three-pointer in the surge, as C of I took a 52-21 lead to the break.

The lead would grow to 62-26 on an O'Byrne trey early in the second half, before PLNU got seven points from Judd Welfringer in a 13-0 run to try to get back into the game – but never got closer that 16.

O'Byrne had 14 points and Joe Vaz came off the bench for 14 points in the victory for the Yotes, with Demetrius Perkins scoring 12 and Taylor Pruett adding 10. C of I held a 35-32 edge on the glass and had 30 assists and 36 made field goals.

Junior Morgan led the Sea Lions with 17 points, with Marek Klassen scoring 16 and Lescault adding 11. PLNU had 13 of their 18 turnover sin the opening half and finished 4-of-21 from three-point range.

The Yotes return to action next week, hosting the annual Golden Rule Shoot-Out. Friday's game times have shifted due to the Cascade Conference Volleyball Championships, with the Eastern Oregon-Walla Walla game on Friday now at 1 p.m., and the Yotes tangling with Westminster at 9 p.m.
