Box Score
CALDWELL, Idaho - Yan Gioseffi scored a goal and an assist, helping The College of Idaho end a three match losing streak, stopping The Evergreen State College, 2-1, at Simplot Stadium.
The win for the Coyotes (2-8, 2-4 CCC) helped the squad even their home record on the season and ended a three-match losing streak against the Geoducks (4-4-2, 2-3-1).
An opening flurry netted the hosts an early lead - as ESC first cleared a Nicko Moreno drive off the goal line in the fifth minute. However, a foul just outside the box gave the Yotes an opportunity - with Gioseffi chipping the free kick into the right corner of the box, finding the boot of Jorge Brambila, who hammered a shot through traffic into the right corner of the goal.
Evergreen would put the clamps down on the Yotes, holding C of I without a shot the rest of the half. However, the Geoducks were unable to find the net on their 11 chances - including a diving save by Coyote keeper Colin Benham-Marin on a flurry in the 19th minute, and a diving stop of a Joseph Ademofe drive in the waning moments of the half.
The tide turned in the second half - as the Yotes held ESC without a shot over the first 40 minutes. C of I took advantage of a foul just outside the right corner of the box in the 64th minute, with Gioseffi driving a shot into the upper right corner of the net to push the lead to 2-0. The Coyotes had a pair of chances to add to the lead - as Joe Bolin hit the right post in the 65th minute and Joao Cardoso hit the crossbar in the 73th minute.
The Geoducks, who played the final 19 minutes a man down - broke through in the 89th minute, when Willie Spurr played a ball into the area, with Sebastion Lyons flicking a shot into the twine to cut the margin to 2-1. ESC had one other chance, as Spurr made a run down the left side inside of 30 seconds remaining, but his 25-yard drive missed left.
Evergreen held a 14-13 edge in shots, while the Yotes held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
The C of I returns to action next Saturday, hosting Oregon Tech at 3 p.m.
