Yotes Lose Tough Overtime Decision at Northwest

Box Score

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Jacob Weaver scored the Golden Goal just 56 seconds into overtime, helping Northwest University escape upset-minded College of Idaho, 1-0, at the NU Soccer Facility.

The Eagles (11-4, 9-2 CCC) have now won 6-of-7 and pulled into first-place in the Cascade Conference standings.

After an even 90 minutes, NU got the game-winner in the opening minute of the first extra session, as Adam Loga played a through-ball up the center of the field to find Weaver, who beat a pair of Coyote (4-11, 4-7) defenders and lined a 20-yard shot into the right corner of the net.

NU had the run of the pitch in the opening period, holding a 10-5 edge in shots, but C of I keeper Colin Benham-Marin made saves on all four shots on goal.

The Yotes controlled play over the final 30 minutes of regulation, nearly taking the lead in the 83rd minute, as Joao Cardoso laced a left-footed bender to the far post that NU keeper Joe Galbraith had to make a diving tip to keep the score 0-0.

The Eagles held a 16-15 edge in total shots, with the Yotes holding a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Galbraith made seven saves to log his fourth shutout of the season.

The Coyotes close out their five match road swing next weekend at Corban and Northwest Christian.
