CALDWELL, Idaho - Audrey Sullivan scored her Cascade Conference leading 11th goal less than a minute into the second half, providing the game-winner for Corban University, as the Warriors stopped The College of Idaho, 1-0, at Simplot Stadium.
Tera McDonough played a ball down the end line in the box to Sullivan, who made a move to the left, then beat her defender to the right, lacing a low shot to the right corner of the net for the score.
The Lady Yotes (3-11, 1-6 CCC) controlled the pitch in the opening 10 minutes – getting a pair of breakaway chances early, including a Jamiece Yizar chance in the second minute. However, Warriors (8-5-2, 4-1-1) keeper Alexis Beattie came off her line and made a point-blank save at the top of the six-yard box to thwart the chance.
Corban nearly took the lead in the 25th, as McDonough laced a shot from just outside the 18, clanging the ball off the crossbar on the left corner of the goal. C of I countered in the 40th minute, but a Bri Blair sitter in the box missed just high.
The Warriors withstood eight C of I shots in the second half - including a Summer Jackson rocket that missed just left in the final 10 minutes to earn the victory. Beattie made six saves for Corban before leaving the game late due to injury.
The visitors, who ended a two-match losing streak to the Yotes, finished the match in a 15-15 stalemate in shots, with the Warriors holding a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Melissa Holmes-Jospeh made six saves on the afternoon for the Coyotes in a losing cause.
The Yotes look to snap a six-match losing streak on Saturday in their home finale, hosting Northwest Christian at 1 p.m. It will be the final home match for five C of I senior student-athletes.
