CALDWELL, Idaho - Timur Zhividze flicked home the game winning goal in the 41
st minute, giving Concordia University a hard-fought 2-1 victory over The College of Idaho at Simplot Stadium.
Off a set piece just outside the box, Radcliffe McDougald played a ball to Septi Danciu near the end-line, with Danciu chipping a ball to the top of the six yard box, finding the foot of Zhividze for the tiebreaking goal.
The Coyotes (3-9, 3-5 CCC) had chances in the second half – but Scott Gross turned away three shots on goal to preserve the win. C of I's best chance came in the 57th minute, when Joe Bolin broke free after a through-ball and was 1-on-1 with Gross, but his 18-yard drive was directly at the on-coming keeper, who snared the shot.
The Cavaliers (9-3, 6-2), who defeated C of I 8-2 in Portland earlier in the month, got on the board in the eighth minute on a Danciu penalty kick after he was fouled in the box. The Yotes answered a minute later, as Cristian Sanchez put away a loose ball on the back post after touches from Nicko Moreno and Sydney Donaldson.
The Yotes nearly took a 2-1 lead in the tenth minute, as after a bobble by Gross, Joao Cardoso collected the ball inside the right corner of the box, but his shot from the angle into the open net missed just left. CU had a chance in the 32nd minute as off a corner kick, Danciu got a free look from the 18, but Brandon Smith got a foot on the ball at the near post to turn away the try.
CU held a 19-10 edge in total shots and an 11-4 edge in corner kicks, while Coyote keeper Colin Benham-Marin made seven saves in the loss.
The Yotes hit the road this Saturday for a match-up at Oregon Tech.
