OLYMPIA, Wash. - Holding a 1-0 second half lead for the second-straight game, The College of Idaho could not hold the edge, as The Evergreen State College tallied a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes to open Cascade Conference play with a 2-1 victory on CRC Field No. 4.
Box Score
After being limited to just one shot in the first half, the Coyotes (0-3-2, 0-1 CCC) took the lead thanks to a foul in the box in the 55th minute, with transfer Yan Gioseffi converting the penalty kick.
However, the Geoducks (1-3, 1-0) continued their onslaught on the Coyote goal, finally breaking through in the 72nd minute, when Dyson Fowler played a ball to Willie Spurr at the top of the 18 - launching a shot that careened off the right post and into the net.
With just four minutes remaining, Evergreen got the game-winner, as Spurr played a perfect cross over the top of the six-yard box, finding Brandon Wood for a flying header for the goal.
The Yotes had a flurry in the final two minutes, as Montana Patton had a header off a corner kick turned away by Geoduck keeper Collin Harlow, then missing a pair of shots from just outside the 18.
The hosts held a commanding 16-9 edge in shots, while both teams had two corner kicks in the match.
The C of I returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. match at Northwest University.
