SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Matt Howard scored a pair of goals, as Hope International University made the most of eight shots on the afternoon, as the Royals shutout The College of Idaho, 3-0, in men’s soccer action at the Westminster Kickoff Classic.

Howard made a solid move inside the box in the 26th minute, driving home a shot past C of I keeper Colin Benham-Marin for the 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Zach Hoffer made it 2-0 by slotting home a drive inside the box to the right corner of the net.
In the second half Howard extended the lead to 3-0 with a nifty move through traffic, rifling a shot into the left corner of the net.
Statistically, the match was even, as HIU had an 8-6 edge in total shots, but an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Keeper Jhoyany Hernandez made three saves for the shutout win.
Parker Waddell was the lone Coyote (0-1-1) to take more than one shot in the game. Benham-Marin made five saves in the loss.
The Yotes will have tomorrow off in preparation for a match-up on Sunday against host Westminster.
