CALDWELL, Idaho - Emilio Yomaha scored a second half hat trick and rookie keeper John French made seven saves, leading The College of Idaho past Oregon Tech, 3-0, this afternoon at Simplot Stadium.
Yomaha got the Coyotes (3-10-4, 3-8-2 CCC) on the board just 26 seconds into the second half, pouncing on a Nicko Moreno rebounded shot just since the 18 and slotting home the eventual game winner.
The sophomore extended the lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute, as Chad Rietze played a long through-ball down the right side to Yomaha, who made just one quick move for space and ripped a shot into the left corner of the net. He completed the scoring in the 63rd minute, making a pair of moves at the left corner of the 18, bending a shot into the top right corner of the net.
French, making his collegiate debut, faced 15 shots on the afternoon - recording the first shutout of the season for the Coyotes. The Owls (1-15-1, 1-14) had their best chance in the 54th minute, as French made a diving stop of a Rey Chevolla shot from inside the box.
The C of I held a 22-15 edge in total shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 1 p.m. to close out the 2012 season. It will also mark the final match for 10 C of I senior student-athletes.
