CALDWELL, Idaho - A pretty goal less than two minutes into the match from Emilio Yomaha gave The College of Idaho a lead it would not relinquish, as the Coyotes ran their unbeaten streak to three with a 3-1 victory over Northwest Christian at Simplot Stadium.
Box Score
Parker Waddell started a counter-attack for the Coyotes (2-9-4, 2-7-2 CCC) down the right sidelines, chipping a cross over the NCU defense to the head of Yomaha at the back post, who beat keeper Erik Carrazco for the 1-0 lead.
The Beacons (4-10-2, 2-8-2) nearly tied the score in the 29th minute, as a Chris Longi header off a redirected corner kick was stopped by a diving Colin Benham-Marin. The Yotes wouldn't miss in the 39th minute, as Nicko Moreno crossed a ball to the left corner of the box, with Yan Gioseffi one-timing a shot to the right corner of the net and a 2-0 lead.
The C of I had chances to break the game open in the second half, as Yomaha was stuffed on a pair of 1-on-1 chances by Carrazco, with NCU getting a tally back in the 77th minute, as Longi took a pass at the far post from Andrew Poe and flicked the ball into the right corner of the net to pull the visitors within 2-1.
In the 80th minute, the Coyotes would get an insurance goal - as Sam Bauer collected a loose ball off a wild corner kick, playing a ball into the box, with Chenjerai Simpson heading the ball into the upper left corner of the net for the 3-1 lead.
NCU held a 16-12 edge in shots - including a Longi shot off the crossbar in the 82nd minute, but Benham-Marin made seven saves to earn the win. The Beacons had 12 corner kick opportunities in the match, but had just two shots off the chances.
The Yotes return to action on Saturday, hosting Northwest University at 3 p.m.
