Benham-Marin's 12 Saves Help Yotes Earn 1-1 Draw at Concordia

Colin Benham-Marin had a career-high 12 saves in draw with Concordia
PORTLAND, Ore. - Colin Benham-Marin recorded a career-high 12 saves - including a key stop of a second half penalty kick, helping The College of Idaho play No. 17 ranked Concordia to a 1-1 draw tonight at Tuominen Yard.

Box Score

It marked the second straight season that the Yotes (1-9-4, 1-7-2 CCC) played 110 minutes against a nationally-ranked CU squad - and earned the point despite the hosts recording a 31-6 edge in total shots.

The Cavaliers (11-2-2, 10-0-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, taking advantage of a C of I miscue.  Matt Eronomo played a cross into the middle of the box, but instead of clearing the ball, the Coyotes flicked the ball into their own goal, giving CU the lead.

The Yotes nearly tied it in the 39th minute, as Nicko Moreno was unmarked just inside the box on the right side, but his drive missed just right.  Five minutes later, the Yotes got the equalizer, as Michael Meyer took advantage of a missed clearance by CU keeper Scott Gross and slotted in the 10-yard strike to the right corner of the goal.

The second half was all CU, as the Cavs took 13 of the 14 shots in the period, but could not crack Benham-Marin.  A foul in the box in the 69th minute gave the hosts a penalty kick, but the junior blocked a Septi Danciu chance, with Michael Chamberlain launching the rebound well left.  Danciu had another chance in the 75th minute, but the Yotes cleared the shot off the goal line.

Concordia had six shots, including four on frame during the two overtime periods, but Benham-Marin provided the wall to preserve the draw.

CU held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks on the evening, along with a 12-10 edge in fouls.

The Yotes return home next week, starting a four-game homestand to end the regular-season, beginning Wednesday vs. Northwest Christian.
