PORTLAND, Ore. - Luis Gomez scored his first collegiate goal with less than four minutes left in regulation, helping The College of Idaho salvage a 2-2 draw this afternoon against Warner Pacific at Palermini Stadium.
Box Score
The tie helped the Yotes (1-9-3, 1-7-1 CCC) end a four-game losing streak and avenge a 4-1 loss to the Knights in Caldwell two weeks ago.
After a scoreless first half, The C of I got on the board in the 56th minute, as Yan Gioseffi played a free kick from just inside the center line into the box, finding the head of Ben Tjaden, who beat Drew Bonifacio for the 1-0 lead.
The Knights (5-7-2, 4-4-2) would counter in the 69th minute, as Scott Schnitzer headed home a Brandon Tatum corner kick to even the score. Seven minutes later, Jameson Jones played a through-ball to the feet of Ricky Carmolinga, who drilled a low drive into the right corner of the net to give WP a 2-1 lead.
Gomez got the Yotes even in the 87th minute, as he collected a rebound of his own drive that Bonifacio could not corral, hammering home the goal to force overtime. Both teams had two shots in the extra 20 minutes, but could not find the net.
WP held a slim 15-14 edge in shots, with Bonifacio making nine saves and the Yotes' Colin Benham-Marin made six saves in the draw. The Coyotes held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks - all in regulation, while The C of I recorded 16 of the 23 fouls in the contest.
The Coyotes return to action tomorrow night, meeting Concordia at 6 p.m. (PT)
