Second Half Goal Lifts Evergreen Past Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho - Willie Spurr took a long pass from George Bundy and scored on a 1-on-1 opportunity early in the second half, helping The Evergreen State College complete a season sweep of The College of Idaho, winning 1-0 at Simplot Stadium.

Despite the Coyotes (1-8-2, 1-6 CCC) controlling the pace and tempo throughout the match, it was the Geoducks (7-4, 7-1) who grabbed the lead in the 50th minute, as Bundy played a long ball from midfield over the Yote defense, finding the feet of Spurr, who beat C of I keeper Colin Benham-Marin for the lone goal of the game.

The Yotes held a 13-9 edge in total shots and had five corner kicks, but could not find the net.  Evergreen keeper Mauricio Sanchez, making just his second start of the year, made six saves to help his team remain alone in second-place in the Cascade Conference standings.

Benham-Marin made four saves – including three in the first half, for the Yotes, who needed a great play by Chenjerai Simpson in the 40th minute to clear a ball from the goal line to preserve a scoreless first half.

The C of I returns to action on Saturday, hosting Corban at 3 p.m.
