BILLINGS, Mont. – Playing their season opener on a neutral field, the College of Idaho could not make a
Bekir Cinac goal hold up, as a late University of Jamestown tally forced overtime, where the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw at Wendy's Field.
The Coyotes (0-0-1) opened the season with a draw for the third time in program history – joining a scoreless tie vs. Whitman in 2006 and a 1-1 stalemate with Northwest Nazarene in 2012.
C of I had the run of the pitch throughout the match – breaking through early in the second half, as Cinac took a thru-ball from
Ansel Brayton and slotted home the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Yotes nearly hung on for the victory, but with 90 seconds left, Aaron Pike sent a long pass behind the Coyote defense, with Kyle Fenske finding the net to square the match.
The Yotes had a 7-3 edge in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks – as
Parker Billings recorded C of I's two saves in the draw.
Tomorrow, C of I meets Division II South Dakota Mines at 11 a.m. to close out the preseason.
