CALDWELL, Idaho –
Gibson Berryhill canned five second half 3-pointers and the College of Idaho equaled a 66-year-old defensive mark, as the Yotes completed a season-sweep of Northwest University with a 76-47 victory inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The win for the No. 7-ranked Coyotes (21-5, 15-1 CCC) was their 11th in a row, equaling the second-longest win streak under head coach
Scott Garson – completing a perfect 5-0 homestand. It was the fifth-straight opponent C of I has limited to under 60 points – the first time the Yotes have achieved the feat since the 1951-52 season – and the first season sweep of NU since 2008-09.
After the Eagles (9-16, 3-12) scored on their first possession, C of I flexed their muscles. Early 3's from
Talon Pinckney and
Nate Bruneel were sandwiched around two
Aziz Leeks lay-ups in a 10-0 run. A banked-in triple from Pinckney as the shot clock expired and a Bruneel put-back bucket extended the lead to 22-7 – with the lead never dropping below 11 points the rest of the night.
Berryhill took over midway through the second half – scoring 14-straight C of I points at one stretch – including four 3-pointers on four consecutive possessions. His fifth triple of the half extended the lead to 65-39 – as the Yotes drained 13 3-pointers on the night.
Berryhill had a career-high 17 points in the win – one of five C of I players in double-figures.
Roosevelt Adams had 13 points and six rebounds; Bruneel and Pinckney each scored 12; with Leeks logging his 12th double-double of the season, scoring 13 points with 12 rebounds. The Coyotes recorded a season-low four turnovers in the victory – while converting 12 NU turnovers into 14 points.
Justice Martion led the visitors with 12 points and seven rebounds – the lone NU player in double-figures. The Eagles made just 35-percent of their field goals in scoring their lowest point total in at least a decade.
C of I hits the road this weekend – traveling the Multnomah on Friday and Warner Pacific Saturday.
