KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Keahi Roy had a game-tying 3-pointer rim out at the buzzer, as Oregon Tech rallied to defeat upset-minded College of Idaho, 60-57, in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Conference Women's Basketball Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Danny Miles Court.
After trailing the majority of the second half, OIT (20-11) got a 3-pointer from Amanda Constant and a Mikaela Shumaker 3-point play in a 10-3 fourth quarter run that erased a 50-48 C of I lead – giving the hosts a 5-point lead with 1:11 left.
The Lady Yotes (11-16) did not quit, as
Alyssa Case canned a triple and followed with a steal.
Sophia Jackson split a pair of free throws to cut the margin to 58-57 with 18 seconds left. After Abby Kreiser made two free throws for the Owls, Roy had a chance to force overtime, but could not connect as time expired – giving OIT their first win in three chances against the Purple and Gold this season.
C of I started quickly, making 5-of-10 field goals and all six free throws to take a 16-9 lead after 10 minutes, a margin that would grow to 20-11 midway through the second quarter. Tech would rally, cutting the gap to 31-25 at the half and pulling even at 40-40 late in the third quarter – setting up the wild finish.
Constant led OIT with 14 points, with Bailey Nelson scoring 12 and Shumaker recording 11 points and nine rebounds – as the Owls held a commanding 36-14 edge in points in the paint.
Roy led the Yotes with 16 points – including a trio of 3-pointers – with
