The Coyotes, who return nine starters on both offense and defense, received 17 voter points from the eight coaches in the circuit (coaches are unable to vote for their own team). C of I finished tied with Rocky Mountain in the No. 6 slot, while Montana State Northern (nine points) rounded out the poll.

Defending league champion, Montana Tech, received five first-place votes and was the preseason favorite with 47 points, while national semifinalist, Eastern Oregon, placed second with 36 voter points – despite not receiving a first-place nod.

Both Southern Oregon and Carroll, squads who have won national titles in the past decade, shared third with 33 points (with SOU earning the remaining three first-place votes), with the Yotes opening opponent – Montana Western – alone in fifth with 27 points.

First-year players report to campus tomorrow; returning players return on Thursday – with the first practice of the fall season beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The Yotes open the 2017 campaign on Aug. 26 at Montana Western – live on 99.1 ESPN Boise.
