KANSAS CITY, Mo. – College of Idaho running back
Nick Calzaretta was honored as both Frontier Conference and NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league and national offices.
In addition, kicker
Kyle Mitchell was named Frontier Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Calzaretta had a big Saturday in the Yotes 64-35 win over then No. 17 Montana Tech, rushing 22 times for a career-high 162 yards and tying a school record with five touchdown runs. The California native becomes the first C of I running back to earn Player of the Week honors since football returned in 2014 and becomes the fifth player overall to earn National Player of the Week honors.
Mitchell earns the honor for the second time this season, tying his own school record by converting eight extra points in Saturday's victory. He also punted five times for a 36 yard average. Mitchell tied Luke Taylor's single-season extra points made record with 34.
The team also earned recognition on the national front, earning four voter points in this week's NAIA Top-25 Coaches Poll, the first time the team has been in the others receiving votes category since September of 2014.
C of I closes out the regular season on Saturday, hosting Montana State-Northern at Noon.
