LEWISTON, Idaho –
Alyssa Case scored a game-high 19 points and
Lindy Westendorf added eight rebounds, but the College of Idaho could not make an early nine point lead hold up, as Montana Tech topped the Lady Yotes, 77-48, in the opening game of the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic inside the LCSC Activity Center.
Case scored the first five points in a C of I (0-2) 15-2 run in the opening quarter, with a runner by
Mackenzie Collins giving the Yotes a 15-6 lead. A Case jumper gave the squad a 21-13 lead early in the second quarter, but Orediggers (6-1) guard Sammy McGree connected on six-straight field goals in an 18-2 run that gave the NAIA Division I school a 33-25 lead at the break.
Tech continued the surge in the third quarter, opening the period on a 18-7 run to break the game wide open.
Nine other Coyotes scored in the loss – but none more than five points. Collins and
Jade Sine each scored five, with
Makenna Schritter adding four. C of I finished 20-of-54 from the field – including four 3-point makes, but made just 4-of-12 free throws and turned the ball over 20 times.
Shay Potter had 18 points and nine rebounds for Tech, with McGree scoring 17 points off the bench. MT finished with a 41-27 edge on the glass and made 52-percent of their field goal tries.
C of I closes out tournament play tomorrow at 5 p.m. (PT) against second-ranked and host Lewis-Clark State.
