Before College of Idaho: Stelzner “Stelz” grew up in Nampa, Idaho, graduating from Nampa High School. Nick played for Coach Humberger during his American Legion Days from 1994-1996, winning a state championship together, in 1995. Stelzner credits a lot of what he learned about baseball, sports and life to, coach Humberger.
Stelzner played two years at The College of Southern Idaho for skip Walker and completed his A.A. degree in psychology during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
After CSI, Stelzner went on to play for Ed Cheff at Lewis-Clark State College winning back-to-back National Championships in 1999 and 2000. Stelzner’s 1999 team was inducted into the Warrior Hall of Fame. While at LC, Stelzner completed his bachelor’s degree in, psychology.
After LC, he passed on an opportunity to participate in a PhD program in clinical psychology to pursue his baseball dreams playing three years of minor league baseball. In his first season, he posted a 0.68 ERA and competed for the league’s championship. Stelzner completed his Masters degrees in Mental Health and Counseling.
Stelzner has spent time coaching at various high school varsity baseball programs here in the treasure valley: Nampa High School (2000-2007), Mountain View High School (2008-2010), Eagle high school (2020-2021, head coach in 2021) and Middleton High School (2022).
Personal: Nick is married to, Darci Michelotti Stelzner, a school administrator. They have one child together, their son, Tyee. They spend a lot of their time: traveling, watching Tyee play: hockey, baseball, basketball, mountain biking, fishing, surfing, body boarding, hiking, camping, taking road trips and having fun.
Stelz currently owns his own private practice specializing in sports and performance counseling, overall mental health, and working in the fields of: psychology, coaching, real estate, consultancy and sports.
