AT COLLEGE OF IDAHO: Matt Gier is in his 12th season as head coach of the Coyote lacrosse program and has an all-time record of 68-38 - the all-time winningest coach in program history. He has led the Yotes to six appearances in the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League playoffs, including three trips to the championship game, winning the title in 2018 and 2019. His 2018 team advanced to the MCLA Division II National Championships, going 1-1 at the event, while his 2019 team advanced to the national semifinals. Gier has worked in the Residence Life office at the College since 2007.
HONORS: Gier has been honored as PNCLL Division II Coach of the Year five times (2010, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019) and has coached eight All-America players (Austin Mendiola, Nich Guzzetti, Jaden Carson, Cory Brady, Casey Davies, Hank Ontiveros, Brad Stewart, Ryan Henning), with his 2019 club finishing a school-record 14-1 - climbing to No. 5 in the MCLA Division II Top-25 poll. His 2012 and 2013 teams were honored by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as the James "Ace" Adams District 11 sportsmanship award recipient.
PERSONAL: Gier is a 2007 graduate of the College, where he played for the lacrosse team. He and wife Lisa have one child, son Gavin.
