Luis Fisher

AT COLLEGE OF IDAHO: Fisher became the Director of Athletic Bands in March 2025. 
 
PRIOR TO C OF I: From 1994-2005, Fisher served in the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. Fisher began his career in music education in 2011. From 2019-2025 he served as the first-ever Director of Bands and Music Department Chairperson at Gateway High School in Fort Myers, Florida. While at Gateway, he started their band program during the COVID-19 pandemic with only 12 freshmen students to over 60 students by the time he departed.  During his tenure he had numerous students that were a part of honor ensembles throughout the state of Florida including seven All County Honor band and orchestra members, one All State band member, and 16 All Star Marching Band members.  Before arriving at Gateway, Fisher was the Director of Music at Florence K-8 and High School (Florence, AZ), Director of Instrumental Music at Sabino High School (Tucson, AZ), Director of Bands at Pueblo High School (Tucson, AZ), and Director of Music at Mission Heights Preparatory High School (Casa Grande, AZ).  While at Sabino, the marching band was State Runner-Up at the Arizona Marching Band Association State Championships in Division 1A.  The indoor color guard were also runners-up at the Winter Guard Arizona State Championships in the Scholastic Regional A Class, Anozira Division.
 
HONORS: Fisher was nominated for a Grammy Award in Music Education in 2018 for his work with the Florence High School music program.  In 2020, 2022, and 2023 he was nominated for the Lee County (FL) Golden Apple Award.  He was named as a Teacher of Distinction in 2022 and won the award in 2023. 
 
PERSONAL: Fisher is a native of Pompano Beach, FL.  He has five children and six grandchildren. Fisher is a 2008 graduate of the University of North Alabama earning a Bachelor of Science in Music degree with a focus of Instrumental Music. In 2011, he graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with a focus of Secondary Education (7-12).  Fisher is a six-year veteran of the drum and bugle corps activity performing on contrabass bugle with the Florida Wave and Colts Drum and Bugle Corps.  He also performed for two years on contrabass and euphonium bugles with the Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps.  He is a member of the Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity.  Since 2022, he has served on the Corporate and Booster Boards of Directors of the Colts Youth Organization in Dubuque, IA.
