Yotes stay unbeaten, sweep Northwest in conference opener

KIRKLAND, Wash.Jessica Stires hammered 11 kills and the College of Idaho hit .292 as a team Friday night, sweeping Northwest 25-23, 25-19, 25-13 to open Cascade Collegiate Conference play and push its record to 8-0.

The Yotes needed to survive a late scare in the opening set. Leading 24-19, College of Idaho watched the Eagles reel off four straight points—including back-to-back service aces from Haylee Koetje—before Keylee Wilson put away a Shaynee McWilliams set to end it at 25-23.

From there the visitors took control. The second set featured nine ties and three lead changes before College of Idaho pulled away, closing on a McWilliams kill and a Cooper Nave ace. The third was never close: the Yotes opened on a 10-3 run, forced an early Northwest timeout and held the Eagles to a .033 hitting percentage the rest of the way.

McWilliams ran the offense for 32 assists and added four kills and five digs. Cierra Bohrn finished with seven kills on .357 hitting and three block assists, and Cora Young was errorless on eight swings for six kills. Alexa Wheeler contributed five kills and four blocks. Kelsy Stanger came off the bench for five kills in a single set of work.

Avery Lewis led the defense with eight digs, and Kadance Jacobson added six. Kadence Boyd served three of the Yotes' eight aces.

College of Idaho out-killed Northwest 44-22 and out-dug the Eagles 36-22 while holding them to .111 for the match.

Afton McRae paced Northwest with six kills. Koetje added five kills, five digs and two aces, and setter Katelyn Bogetti handed out 18 assists. Teagan Schroeder and Jaelyn Moeva each had four kills.
