CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho volleyball team made program history Friday night. The Yotes rallied from a second-set setback to defeat Oregon Tech 25-23, 26-28, 25-14, 25-22 at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center, improving to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The 10-match winning streak marks the best start in program history, surpassing the previous mark of 9-0 set by the 2017 team.

Current head coach Liz Mendiola also coached that 2017 squad, and Friday's victory came in her 26th season leading the Yotes.

College of Idaho appeared in control after taking the opening set, but Oregon Tech answered by edging the Yotes in a back-and-forth second set. The Owls overcame a 23-21 deficit and eventually took the set 28-26 to even the match.

The Yotes responded emphatically.

College of Idaho jumped to a 7-0 lead to open the third set and never looked back, hitting .382 as a team while limiting Oregon Tech to a .062 attack percentage. The Yotes closed the set on a 4-0 run to take a 2-1 match lead.

The fourth set featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes before College of Idaho seized control late. The Yotes trailed 20-18 before scoring four consecutive points to take a 22-20 lead. After Oregon Tech pulled within one, College of Idaho scored the final three points to close out the historic victory.

Shaynee McWilliams orchestrated the offense with 51 assists, while also adding 12 digs, three block assists and two kills.

Jessica Stires led the Yotes with 12 kills, while Alexa Wheeler added 11 kills on .381 hitting, including the match-sealing kill. Keylee Wilson and Cora Young each recorded 10 kills, with Young hitting .348. Cierra Bohrn contributed eight kills and five block assists.

College of Idaho finished the night with a .257 team hitting percentage and 20 block assists. The Yotes held Oregon Tech to .144 hitting and forced the Owls into 24 attack errors.Avery Lewis led the defensive effort with 20 digs, while McWilliams added 12. Kadance Jacobson had nine digs and three service aces, and Kadence Boyd also recorded three aces.

Oregon Tech was led offensively by Steffini Goss and Tiffini Goss, who each recorded 12 kills, while Kaliko Schilling added 10 kills. Taryn Ramsay posted 37 assists, two service aces and 14 digs, and Kaley Whalen led the Owls with 14 digs. Aleksen Thayer contributed five kills and four blocks, including three block assists.

The Yotes will look to make more history Saturday when they face Southern Oregon at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
