VANCOUVER, B.C., Canada — The College of Idaho dropped both ends of its Friday doubleheader at British Columbia, falling 4-3 in the opener and 9-4 in game two.
In game one, the Yotes (19-15, 4-8 CCC) took a midgame lead but could not hold off a late push from the Thunderbirds. After evening the score in the second on an RBI groundout by Hallie Campbell, College of Idaho moved in front with two runs in the fourth. Madelyn Powell delivered an RBI single and Chloe Flerchinger drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-1.
British Columbia answered in the sixth on a two-run home run by Kennedy Laird to tie the game. The Thunderbirds then pushed across the go-ahead run in the seventh, taking advantage of an error to secure the 4-3 win.
Marti Anderson led the Yotes with two hits, while Powell and Campbell each drove in a run. Drew Williams allowed three runs over 5.1 innings in the start, with Kina Watts taking the loss in relief.
In game two, British Columbia scored seven runs in the first inning and never trailed. Mattea Burrill highlighted the inning with a three-run home run as the Thunderbirds built an early cushion.
The Yotes responded with three runs in the third, including a two-run single from Watts and an RBI single by Powell. Lena Zahniser added a solo home run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-4.
College of Idaho finished with 10 hits, getting two apiece from Watts, Powell and Audrey Sweet. Watts drove in two runs in the loss.
British Columbia added two runs in the sixth to extend the lead and close out the 9-4 win.
The series continues Saturday.
