College of Idaho Cruises Past Pacific for Tuesday Sweep

CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho softball team picked up a pair of nonconference wins over NCAA Division III Pacific University on Tuesday at Symms Field, rolling to an 11-3 victory in game one before completing the sweep with a 6-2 decision in game two.

The Yotes (16-12) jumped on Pacific early in the opener, scoring six runs over the first three innings to take control. An RBI double from Marti Anderson and a run-scoring double by Hallie Campbell highlighted a three-run first inning, while run-producing outs from Kina Watts and Madelyn Powell helped extend the lead in the second.

College of Idaho added a four-run fourth inning to pull away, getting RBI hits from Isabella Fazzio and Chloe Flerchinger as part of a 13-hit effort. Flerchinger drove in two runs, Anderson finished with two RBIs, and Campbell recorded a pair of doubles and an RBI. Kamryn Ham led the way at the top of the order, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and scoring a run.

Drew Williams earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs on six hits.

Pacific's biggest swing came on a three-run home run by Kimberly Ray in the fourth, but the Boxers could not keep pace with the Yotes' offense.

In game two, College of Idaho again struck early, taking advantage of defensive miscues to build a 3-0 lead through two innings. Haiylee Reeves delivered an RBI double in the first, and Kayla Vahlberg added an RBI single in the second.

The Yotes continued to manufacture runs throughout the game, adding a run in the fourth before Olivia Asumendi broke things open with a two-run double in the fifth to push the lead to 6-1.

Rylee Smith earned the win, allowing just one earned run over five innings while striking out three. Watts closed the door with two innings in relief.

Asumendi led the offense in the nightcap with two RBIs, while Reeves, Vahlberg and Alyssa Melendez each drove in a run. Despite being limited to six hits, the Yotes capitalized on three Pacific errors and timely situational hitting.

College of Idaho returns to Cascade Conference play this weekend.
