CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 8-ranked The College of Idaho volleyball team delivered a dominant performance Thursday evening, sweeping The Evergreen State College (WA) 25-11, 25-12, 25-12 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action inside Elgin Baylor Arena. The Yotes improved to 17-1 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
The Yotes hit an impressive .433 as a team while holding the Geoducks to a -.041 attack percentage, showcasing their balance and efficiency on both sides of the net. The College of Idaho recorded 37 kills on just eight errors and added 11 service aces in the victory.
Leading the offensive charge was
Cora Young, who posted eight kills on 11 attacks while hitting a blistering .636.
Addison McKarcher was nearly unstoppable, finishing with six kills on seven swings for a match-best .857 hitting percentage while contributing three block assists.
Abigail Flerchinger added six kills and hit .455, while
Jessica Stires chipped in five kills on a .444 clip.
The Yotes' depth was on full display throughout the night. Carolina Moreno-Rubio recorded three kills on four attempts (.750), and
Cierra Bohrn contributed four kills while hitting .571. The offense was orchestrated by setters
Shaynee McWilliams and
Whitney Pierzga, who combined for 29 assists. McWilliams added two service aces, while Pierzga matched her with two aces of her own.
From the service line,
Avery Lewis sparked several Yote runs with a match-high three aces, helping The College of Idaho keep Evergreen out of system for much of the evening.
Despite the loss, Mikayla Kelly was a bright spot for Evergreen, recording a team-high four kills while hitting .231. Sophia Scroggins added seven kills for the Geoducks and accounted for nearly half of the visitors' offensive output.
The opening set set the tone as The College of Idaho used a 15-6 surge to pull away before closing out a 25-11 victory. After Evergreen grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the second set, the Yotes responded with a decisive 22-9 run to take control. The third set was more competitive early, but a 17-8 push midway through the frame put the match out of reach and completed the sweep.
The Yotes return to the court Saturday when they host Northwest University at 4 p.m. inside Elgin Baylor Arena.
