FULLERTON, Calif. - The College of Idaho volleyball team continued its dominant start to the 2025 season Saturday, sweeping Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) 25-13, 25-15, 25-12 at the Hope International Summer Slam. The Yotes improved to 3-0 on the year after a statement opening day that included a five-set upset of No. 2-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) and a comeback win over host Hope International.
C of I overwhelmed the Eagles on both sides of the net, hitting .443 as a team while holding Embry-Riddle to a -.080 percentage. Abigail Flerchinger led the way with nine kills on .500 hitting and added two service aces, while Kelsy Stanger (six kills, .455) and Mia Hutchinson (five kills, .556) kept the attack balanced. Setter Shaynee McWilliams distributed 24 assists and added five digs, and Alexa Wheeler was nearly perfect with four kills on five swings.
Defensively, the Yotes were just as sharp. Libero Liza Montalbo posted nine digs, while Kadence Boyd contributed four digs and two service aces. C of I never trailed by more than two points in the match, pulling away quickly in each set with aggressive serving and efficient hitting.
After three matches in two days, the Yotes have shown depth, composure, and the ability to adjust on the fly, traits that carried them through two rallies on Friday and into Saturday's dominant sweep. They will look to build on their perfect start as play continues next week in Nebraska.
