ASHLAND, Ore. — The College of Idaho softball team fell in both games of a Cascade Conference doubleheader Thursday against number one-ranked Southern Oregon University at University Field in Ashland, Ore. The Yotes were blanked 8-0 in the opener before dropping a back-and-forth 10-5 decision in game two.
Game 1: Southern Oregon 8, College of Idaho 0 (6 innings)
Southern Oregon's ace, Davies, was dominant in the circle, tossing a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts over six innings to secure her 23rd win of the season. The Raiders gradually pulled away, scoring in the second, fifth, and erupting for four runs in the sixth to end the game via mercy rule.
The Yotes were limited to just one hit — a third-inning triple by Kamryn Ham — and were unable to capitalize despite putting two runners on base.
Kila and Williams powered the Raider offense with two hits and multiple RBIs each, while Southern Oregon stole four bases and capitalized on three College of Idaho errors.
Game 2: Southern Oregon 10, College of Idaho 5
In the nightcap, the Yotes responded with more offensive punch but ultimately couldn't match Southern Oregon's firepower. After falling behind 4-0 in the first, College of Idaho rallied with five unanswered runs over the second and third innings — highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Madelyn Powell and an RBI double by Kate Crosby — to take a 5-4 lead.
However, the Raiders answered quickly, tying the game in the third and retaking the lead in the fifth on a two-run homer by Seva. Southern Oregon added three more in the sixth to pull away.
Powell led the Yotes with a triple, two RBIs, and a walk, while Crosby collected three hits including a double.
The Yotes (25-11, 14-9 CCC) and Raiders (40-4, 21-2 CCC) wrap up their series tomorrow at 11 a.m. back at University Field in Ashland, Ore. with another day of doubleheader action.
