HELENA, Mont. – The College of Idaho softball team opened Cascade Conference play with an offensive display on the road, combining for 16 runs and 19 hits in a doubleheader against Carroll College on Saturday at Nelson Stadium. Despite the Yotes' strong efforts at the plate, they dropped both games to the Saints in a pair of high-scoring battles.
In Game 1, College of Idaho came out swinging, putting up three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Yotes' bats continued to produce throughout the game, adding runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Madelyn Powell powered the offense, launching a three-run home run, while Brinley Iverson and Lolo Walker also went deep to highlight a three-homer performance for the Yotes. Powell finished the game with three RBIs, and the team totaled 10 hits in the contest.
Game 2 saw another steady offensive effort from the Yotes, who pushed runs across in five different innings. Powell stayed locked in at the plate, delivering a home run and a triple while driving in three runs to cap off a stellar day. Ashlynn Nixon reached base three times, while Chloe Flerchinger added multiple hits to keep the Yotes within striking distance. College of Idaho finished the game with nine hits and showed resilience at the plate despite the final result.
Though the Yotes were unable to secure a win in their conference-opening series, their ability to generate offense on the road provides a strong foundation moving forward. College of Idaho will look to build on its performance as it continues Cascade Conference play next weekend.
