College of Idaho Overwhelms Whitworth in Doubleheader

CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho softball team delivered a powerful performance on their home turf at Symms Field, sweeping Whitworth University in a doubleheader. The Yotes cruised to an 11-0 victory in the first game, which was abbreviated to five innings, and followed up with a hard-fought 2-1 win in the second game.

Game 1: College of Idaho 11, Whitworth 0 (5 innings)

The Yotes wasted no time asserting their dominance in the opener. After a quiet first inning, College of Idaho exploded for two runs in the second, three in the third, and a six-run rally in the fourth, sealing an 11-0 triumph over the Pirates.

Chloe Flerchinger led the charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Makayla Frias and Hallie Campbell each drove in multiple runs, with Campbell knocking a two-run double as part of the Yotes' fourth-inning onslaught.

Pitcher Abbey Brooks was flawless in the circle, tossing a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts in five innings, securing her first win of the season.

Game 2: College of Idaho 2, Whitworth 1

The second game proved to be a nail-biter, as the Yotes edged out a 2-1 victory thanks to timely hitting and clutch pitching. College of Idaho struck first in the second inning when Campbell grounded out to bring home Frias, giving the Yotes an early lead.

After Whitworth tied the game in the sixth, the Yotes responded swiftly in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, Flerchinger delivered once again, driving in the game-winning run with a deep single to seal the 2-1 win.

Pitchers Ambrie Jones and Drew Williams combined for a strong performance, allowing just one unearned run on seven hits. Jones went six innings with two strikeouts, while Williams closed the door with a hitless final frame.

Looking Ahead

The Yotes will look to keep their momentum rolling as they face Benedictine Mesa University tomorrow at Symms Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM at Symms Field.
